Suspect killed in officer-involved shooting
A suspect was shot and killed early Friday in Brooklyn Center following a struggle with an officer. The shooting happened after police conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Shingle Creek Parkway and the entrance ramp to westbound I-94.
The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation. The Brooklyn Center officer involved in the fatal shooting is on standard administrative leave. The officer's name has not been released. Authorities also have not released the identity of the man killed. It's also unknown if the man was carrying a gun.
This was the second time in 24 hours that Brooklyn police were called to the area. The officer-involved shooting happened not far from where another man was killed early Thursday in a separate case. Police do not believe the two incidents are related.
The last time Brooklyn Center police shot and killed someone was last May when a 20-year old man was walking down 53rd Street carrying a rifle. That man, 20-year-old Dontaylo Wright, was asked by officers to drop the weapons, but did not comply.
