BLACK Lives Matter protesters fill London streets over the death of George Floyd in the US.

People gather in Parliament Square, chanting 'No Justice No Peace' in the memory of George Floyd, a black man, who died after a white police officer knelt on his neck.

The 46-year-old was handcuffed and on the ground in Minneapolis earlier this week before falling unconscious.

Video of him pinned down, which has gone viral, shows Mr Floyd begging for air saying, "please, I can't breathe" and "don't kill me".

Protests have since flared up across the US, with the movement against police brutality going global.

On Saturday afternoon protesters in London carried placards reading "solidarity" and "Black lives matter".

Some read "the UK is not innocent" as dozens of people marched through Peckham, stopping buses and cars on the main road.

John Boyega gives passionate Black Lives Matter speech at George Floyd protest in Hyde Park
John Boyega gives passionate Black Lives Matter speech at George Floyd protest in Hyde Park WorldViralMedia 22 Views • 5 years ago

Star Wars actor, John Boyega, joined thousands of protesters for a Black Lives Matter rally in London today sparked by George Floyd's death.

Helicopters flew overhead of Hyde Park as the crowd of demonstrators swelled and chants of "police the police" filled the air before the group started to march.

John Boyega made a passionate call to arms through multiple megaphones as he spoke to the crowd of around 15,000 gathered in central London.

He told the protesters: "We are a physical representation of our support for George Floyd.

"We are a physical representation of our support for Sandra Bland. We are a physical representation of our support for Trayvon Martin. We are a physical representation of our support for Stephen Lawrence.

"Every black person in here remembered when another person reminded you that you were black.

"So none of you out there, all those protesters on the other side, protesting against what we want to do, protesting against what we want to try and achieve, burn you, this is so vital."

The Star Wars actor continued: "I need you to understand how painful this s**t is. I need you to understand how painful it is to be reminded every day that your race means nothing and that isn't the case anymore, that was never the case anymore."

The activists have been asked to maintain social distancing and wear protective masks at the peaceful protest to protect against coronavirus
