Five stories to know for April 12: Protests erupt after Minneapolis shooting, Virginia police officer fired and sued, Derek Chauvin trial and UK ends lockdown.

1. Violent protests erupted after a Minneapolis shooting in the suburb of Brooklyn Center. 20-year-old Daunte Wright, a Black man, was shot dead during a traffic stop. The unrest in Brooklyn Center came hours before the trial of Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer charged with murdering George Floyd, was set to resume in a courtroom less than 10 miles away on Monday.

2. One of two Virginia police officers was fired. The firing comes after U.S. Army officer Caron Nazario filed a lawsuit against the two police officers in federal court over what court papers say was a violent traffic stop on Dec. 5, 2020, where officers pointed their guns, knocked him to the ground, pepper sprayed him and "threatened to murder him.

3. Prosecutors will rest their case this week at the Derek Chauvin trial. The 45-year-old ex-Minneapolis police officer has pleaded not guilty to murder and manslaughter charges in the May 2020 death of George Floyd, a Black man. The trial has included police testimony and emotional eyewitness descriptions of Floyd dying under Chauvin’s knee. Chauvin's defense team is arguing that he was following the training he had received during his 19 years on the force.

4. Prince Harry arrive back in Britain to attend Prince Philip’s funeral on Saturday.

5. The UK ended its three month lockdown. People lined up outside retailers across England to release their pent-up shopping fever and some grabbed a midnight pint or even an early haircut as shops, pubs, gyms and hairdressers reopened.

Doja Cat - Streets (Live Performance)
Doja Cat - Streets (Live Performance) WorldViralMedia 33 Views • 6 years ago

⁣Welcome to the world of Doja Cat. Born and raised in L.A., the 24-year-old self-taught singer-rapper behind “Candy” is a vet of sorts. The arts were central to her upbringing, and she started sharing her music on Soundcloud back in 2013. A year later she dropped her much-buzzed-about ‘Purrr!’ EP, and since she’s nurtured an ever-growing array of feverish fans who revere her for combining a radiant charisma with a unique flow and tongue-in-cheek lyrics (see: the irresistible“MOOO!”). Seems like Doja has designed her version of alt-R&B to take off in any direction she chooses. Tours with Lizzo and Theophilius London led right into 2018’s impressive ‘Amala’ debut, followed by last year’s ‘Hot Pink.’ That album’s “Say So” is currently clocking big numbers. Arresting visuals help. Her videos for “Rules,” and “Say So” are wildly fun. Ditto for the hyper footage from ‘Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey’ that makes a nice parallel to Doja’s “Boss Bitch” track. When the Vevo production team united with the feline phenom to figure out performance ideas, the creative juices were flowing. The goal? Put the “cat” in Doja Cat - a decision that resulted in what’s probably our most ambitious studio build to date for a LIFT performance. For “Streets,” we built a massive bowl of milk. Doja hopped in that 2% and bodied the beat - clearly in her element. Time to wet your whiskers, and if this one’s not wild enough for ya, stay tuned: another performance and short film are on their way.
