In interview with Fauci, Zuckerberg says U.S. failed on coronavirus response
In interview with Fauci, Zuckerberg says U.S. failed on coronavirus response WorldViralMedia 23 Views • 5 years ago

In a wide-ranging discussion Thursday with Dr. Anthony Fauci, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg noted that the U.S. response to the coronavirus pandemic — in which more than 138,000 Americans have died — has been “significantly worse” than in the rest of the world. Fauci did not disagree, but said the nation needs to “call a time-out” to “regroup.”

“While every other developed country in the world, or almost every other country, has had a relatively smaller number of new infections, we now face a record number of new infections every day,” Zuckerberg said near the start of the nearly hourlong discussion, which was carried live on Facebook. “At this point it is clear that the trajectory in the U.S. is significantly worse than many other countries and that our government and this administration have been considerably less effective in handling this. I personally think we need to take this a lot more seriously and our understanding of the disease is evolving and our response needs to be guided by science and our latest scientific understanding.”

Zuckerberg asked Fauci what we needed to do as a nation to improve.

“As you described accurately, Mark, we do have a serious situation now. I mean, it’s a mixed bag. There are parts of the country that are doing well, the Northeastern part, particularly the New York metropolitan area, was hit very hard,” Fauci responded, adding that we needed to pay more attention to the Southern states, where cases and deaths were spiking, and took issue with local officials who enacted insufficient social distancing restrictions and rushed to reopen society. “We’ve really got to almost regroup. Call a time-out. Not necessarily lock down again, but say ‘We’ve got to do this in a more measured way.’ We’ve got to get our arms around this, and we’ve got to get this controlled.”

Zuckerberg said he agreed with the need for a reset, but didn’t back away from his criticisms of the Trump administration.

“I was certainly sympathetic early on when it was clear that there would be some outbreaks no matter how well we handled this,” Zuckerberg told Fauci in a conversation that was broadcast live on the social media network, “but now that we’re here in July I just think it was avoidable and it’s really disappointing that we still don’t have adequate testing, that the credibility of our top scientists like yourself and the CDC are being undermined and, until recently, that parts of the administration were calling into question whether people should even follow best practices like wearing masks.”

Members of President Trump’s administration have attacked Fauci in recent days, circulating to reporters a list of statements the infectious disease specialist has made since the emergence of the pandemic that they claim were wrong.

“That’s really the nature of science,” Fauci replied. “You look at the information and the data that you have at any given time, and you make a decision on policy based on that information. As the information changes, then you have to be flexible enough and humble enough to change how you think about things.”

Earlier on Tuesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also criticized Trump for not heeding the advice from scientists on how to safely reopen society, including the nation’s schools.

“Mr. President, admit it: You’ve gone down the wrong path. Ask for direction. Ask for direction from our scientists,” Pelosi said.

With the number of cases spiking in dozens of states across the country, Zuckerberg asked Fauci what steps he thought the country should take in order to reset our response to the pandemic.

“I would recommend as strong as possibly can to get people to wear masks,” Fauci said, “to avoid crowds, to keep distances — outdoors always better than indoors.”

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany was asked by Yahoo News on Thursday whether Trump planned on issuing a nationwide order requiring face masks.

“We leave it to localities to make the decisions with regard to face coverings. [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] guidelines remain the same today: recommended but not required,” McEnany said.

Over the course of the past week, Trump has pushed states to reopen public schools and has threatened to withhold federal funding to those districts that refuse. Fauci said that he agrees with making reopening schools a priority, but stopped short of Trump’s call to resume in person classes despite the health risks.

“To the extent possible, our default should be to try and get the children back to school. The reason I say that is that the unintended ripple effects, downstream consequences of keeping the children out of school can be profound,” Fauci said, while warning that the virus was spreading too fast in some areas to do so fully.

Fauci said some districts should look at modifications to a full reopening, including staggering attendance, separating students with compromised immune systems and holding classes outside. “It can be done,” he concluded.

Police: 3 Women Face Battery Charges After Attack On Spirit Airlines’ Employees At Broward Airport
Police: 3 Women Face Battery Charges After Attack On Spirit Airlines’ Employees At Broward Airport WorldViralMedia 23 Views • 5 years ago

⁣⁣Three women are facing battery charges after authorities say they attacked Spirit Airlines employees at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Tuesday evening.
Part of the incident was captured on cellphone video and was sparked after a flight delay.

⁣The arrest report says BSO deputies arrived at the Spirit Airlines gate where a disturbance was taking place.

⁣Broward Sheriff Office deputies say Danaysha Akia Cuthbert Dixon, 22, Kaira Candida Ferguson, 21, and Tymaya Monique Wright, 20, all from Philadelphia, “intentionally struck Spirit Airlines employees with phones, shoes, full water bottles, and metal signs.”
An airports spokesperson released the following statement on the incident:
“The safety and security of the traveling public and airport employees is part of our core mission. The behavior of the individuals as seen in the video during Tuesday’s incident is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in our facility. We applaud the prompt response by our airline partner and the Broward Sheriff’s Office”.
Spirit Airlines released the following statement:
“We thank our Team Members for their professionalism and quick actions, and we also thank the Broward Sheriff’s Office for their assistance at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport yesterday. Three guests became combative following a delayed flight, and they were arrested for physically assaulting our Team Members. Three of our Team Members sustained minor injuries. This violent behavior is completely unacceptable and has absolutely no place in airports or any other place of business. We will not tolerate abusive behavior of any kind. Further questions about this incident should be referred to law enforcement.”
In 2017, the low-cost airline was in the midst of a contract dispute with pilots. Canceled flights led to an angry mob forming at the Broward airport. Deputies had to be called in to break it up.
One of the women arrested is also accused of stealing a phone from one of the Spirt employees, investigators said. Authorities said they found the phone inside a backpack.
The women were taken into custody and were transported to the Broward main jail.

Woman stabbed multiple times in Lyft, before escaping and being hit by car: Police Say
Woman stabbed multiple times in Lyft, before escaping and being hit by car: Police Say WorldViralMedia 16 Views • 5 years ago

SOUTH FULTON, Ga. — A woman was nearly stabbed to death by a passenger while riding in a Lyft Tuesday night.

Authorities in South Fulton said she was forced to jump out of the car into oncoming traffic to escape. Police said during that process she was hit by another car.

It happened around 11 p.m. on Butner Road near Fair Ridge, according to police.

The victim was riding in the Lyft with three other people -- the driver and two other passengers -- when she was attacked.

Investigators are trying to determine if the passengers knew each other.

The victim was originally taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but police said she is now stable.

Authorities said the suspect ran away from the scene before police arrived but they are working to locate her. The Lyft driver, the front seat passenger and the driver of the car involved in the wreck remained on scene until police arrived.

Tyron Bush, who spoke to 11Alive on Wednesday, is the driver who struck the woman. He said as he was driving down the road, he noticed a car with its hazard lights on.

Bush said that the woman who was stabbed ran into the roadway, he hit his brakes - but it was too late and he hit her.

"They was trying to kill her," Bush believes. "The way she was running from them, I know she was frightened."

He said he thought she was dead. He recalled several people outside the car arguing - but said he was outnumbered and didn't feel safe.

"I made it back to my truck because I didn't have a weapon," he said. "There was too many of them."

Bush said someone from the Lyft walked off and he assumes it was the suspect police are looking for.

Bush returned to the scene on Wednesday to see if police could give him information on how the victim is doing.

"That could have been my daughter," he said. "I just want to know how she's doing."

Lyft sent a statement to 11Alive saying, "Community safety is fundamental to Lyft. The incident described is unacceptable, and we are in the process of gathering the facts. We have reached out to the driver to offer our support and stand ready to assist law enforcement with their investigation."

3:17 PM PT -- New obtained Video footage of the incident, starting with Megan being asked to exit the vehicle and back up toward police. As you can see ... with each step she takes, she leaves a trail of blood.

Meanwhile, Lanez is already lying face down and sprawled out in the middle of the street.

After Meg sits down on the sidewalk, the other woman in the vehicle is asked to come out. As we told you, she can be heard saying, "My hands are up" as she follows the cops' instructions.

All 3 people appear to be in swimwear. According to Megan's Instagram story, she and Lanez were at Kylie Jenner's pool party earlier in the night.

12:07 PM PT -- The LAPD say Megan never told them she was the victim of a crime. The spokesperson said, "At the time Megan Thee [Stallion] was with police she did not report that she was the victim of any crime. And the LAPD has not received any additional information at this time."

Megan Thee Stallion was shot in the foot early Sunday morning ... when she and Tory Lanez were pulled over, and he got arrested for gun charges.

Megan says, “The narrative that is being reported about Sunday’s morning events are inaccurate and I’d like to set the record straight. On Sunday morning, I suffered gunshot wounds, as a result of a crime that was committed against me and done with the intention to physically harm me."

Megan does not say who pulled the trigger, but she wants to make it clear ... she did nothing wrong. She adds, "I was never arrested, the police officers drove me to the hospital where I underwent surgery to remove the bullets. I’m incredibly grateful to be alive and that I’m expected to make a full recovery, but it was important for me to clarify the details about this traumatic night. I’m currently focused on my recovery, so I can return back to my life and back to making music as soon as possible.”

As we reported, police were responding to reports of multiple gunshots outside a Hollywood Hills party were Meg and Tory had been.

LAPD found a handgun in the SUV that was driving Tory, Meg and another woman -- and Tory was booked for possession of a concealed weapon. As for Megan's injuries ... law enforcement sources say she told the cops that night she had cut her foot on glass -- that's why officers took her to the hospital for treatment.

To this point ... police have NOT connected Tory to the shots that were fired outside the party.

I was never arrested. This whole experience was an eye opener and a blessing in disguise. I hate that it took this experience for me to learn how to protect my energy.
