A jewellery shop in downtown LA was the target of looting as several cities in the USA protested about George Floyd's killing on Friday.

People could be seen breaking into the shop and removing display cabinets, as they emptied drawers. The shop door was visibly damaged, with the shutters pulled up. Looters could also be seen splitting their loot outside the shop, with some half covering their faces.

A wave of protests began on Tuesday, just a day after Floyd's death, but have since descended into riots, complete with lawlessness, brawling and looting.

The rallies were sparked after the death of a 46-year-old African American in Minneapolis on Monday, after a police officer was recorded kneeling on his neck for nearly ten minutes.

The police officer who was seen putting his knee on the back of Floyd's neck was arrested and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter on Friday.

The mayor of Washington, DC, ordered a massive “Black Lives Matter” mural painted along the road to the White House — which now has a giant fence erected around it.

Mayor Muriel Bowser contacted the DC Public Works Department for help to create the giant, yellow letters that span two blocks of 16th street in the nation’s capital.

Each of the letters span the width of the two-lane road — the paint of which began on Friday morning. 16 Street, where the mural is painted, leads to Lafayette Square and the White House.

Bowser has deemed the area with the huge Black Lives Matter lettering “Black Lives Matter Plaza” — which she designated with a street sign.
