Tear gas, smashed windows and fires were all present during a riot which occurred in the downtown area of Grand Rapids on Saturday, May 30, 2020. The riot came after a peaceful protest march in response to the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minn. A police officer was charged in his death.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) issued a state of emergency and activated 500 National Guard troops "to protect people & property in Atlanta" at the request of Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms (D). The mayor had issued an earlier appeal for calm in the city, though violent demonstrations continued, including outside CNN's headquarters in the city, which was vandalized.

The College Football Hall of Fame near CNN Center in Atlanta, Georgia was significantly damaged during protests downtown Friday.

Authorities had announced earlier in the day Friday that one of the officers involved in George Floyd's arrest, Derek Chauvin, would be charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter. Chauvin was seen on video kneeling on Floyd's neck for about eight minutes as he was heard saying "I can't breathe" before he eventually died.

A protest related to London's "Black Lives Matter" movement broke out in the neighbourhood Peckham on Saturday (May 30), in response to the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man who was killed by a police officer in the U.S. city Minneapolis earlier this week.

Organisers for the demonstration said they held a moment of silence in the park for Floyd's death but also said the protest was meant to shed light on racial injustice within the British judiciary system against black people.

Earlier in the week, graphic video footage of his death showed George Floyd gasping for air and pleading for help as he repeatedly groaned, "please, I can't breathe," while a crowd of anguished bystanders shouted at police to let the man up.

The white former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin shown in video footage using his knee to pin Floyd's neck to the street was charged with murder on Friday following Floyd's death.

Floyd's death has led to dozens of often violent protests erupting across dozens of U.S. cities.

Yesterday protests took place all around Los Angeles County for the 5th day in a row. The protests started off as a Black Lives Matter peaceful protest, but once the evening started to roll in those peaceful protests quickly became violent, as looters started to swarm in and take advantage of the situation.
