Protests near the White House escalated on Sunday amid the continued fallout from the killing of George Floyd, with images on social media showing multiple fires and scenes of rowdy crowds even as a citywide curfew had been imposed.
Sunday night saw the third straight day of protests in the nation's capital following the release of a video last week showing a white police officer in Minneapolis kneeling on the neck of the 46-year-old Floyd, an unarmed black man. Floyd died in police custody shortly after the video was taken.
His death has sparked increasingly violent protests across the country, from Los Angeles to New York, and has led Minnesota officials to charge the police officer in the video, Derek Chauvin, with third-degree murder manslaughter.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, U.S. President Donald Trump and former vice president and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden reacted on Wednesday to the death of George Floyd.
Frey on Wednesday called for Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman to charge the white police officer who arrested George Floyd, a black man, and was seen on video appearing to press his knee onto Floyd’s neck. Floyd could be heard saying that he could not breathe and eventually stopped moving. The officer was one of four fired a day after Floyd's death, but it's not yet known whether the incident will be considered criminal.
Walz commented that seeing the video left him "shocked and horrified," and said that he shared "that primal scream of watching humanity get erased in front of you." Attorney general Keith Ellison, who joined Walz, said the investigation would proceed with a degree of objectivity, but stressed they were dealing with a "systemic problem" and change needs to happen.
Trump made brief remarks while at the Kennedy Space Center for the eventual scrubbed mission of the SpaceX Demo-2 launch, saying it was a "very, very sad" event and they would look into the incident.
Prior to a discussion with Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf, Biden also spoke saying that George Floyd's "life mattered" and said the video reminded him of Eric Garner, another black man who died in 2014 after a New York City police officer put him in a chokehold. Garner, like Floyd, had told the officer he couldn't breathe prior to his death. The former vice president said that while the firing of the officers was right, they had to "ensure the Floyd family receives the justice they're entitled to" and said more is needed than just the officers' firing.

Scenes taken from 5.28.2020 in Minneapolis, Minnesota along Lake Street. All footage is my own, contact for permission before using.
On memorial day 2020 George Floyd was killed by police officers in Minneapolis. Since then peaceful protests have coincided with acts of vandalism. Here are scenes taken during a ride down a mile long section of Lake Street in the early afternoon of 5.28.2020. This is such a sad situation in every aspect, hopefully justice can be served and Minneapolis can learn, rebuild, and grow stronger.

Surveillance video does not appear to show George Floyd, who died after being pinned down by Minneapolis cops, resisting arrest — which police had claimed — in the moments before the deadly encounter.
Floyd, who is black, can be seen on footage from a nearby restaurant Monday complying with cops as he’s led from a vehicle, CBS News reported.
With his hands cuffed behind his back, he appears to be ordered to sit on the ground, which he does, video shows.
The footage contradicts police accounts that Floyd “physically resisted officers” after he exited his vehicle.

The cop who was caught on camera using his knee to pin George Floyd’s neck to the ground is being charged with unintentional murder and manslaughter — but may face more serious allegations, a Minnesota prosecutor said Friday.
The three other cops at the scene will likely also face charges in Floyd’s racially charged death, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said.
Since-fired Officer Derek Chauvin was taken into custody pending the filing of a criminal complaint charging him with third-degree murder and manslaughter, Freeman said.
Under Minnesota law, third-degree murder covers “eminently dangerous” acts that cause death without the intent of doing so, and is punishable by up to 25 years in prison.

Riot cops in western New York shoved an elderly man to the ground, where he lay bleeding and unconscious on the pavement.
The two officers were suspended by Buffalo Police Commissioner Byron Lockwood and a full Internal Affairs investigation is pending after the disturbing footage emerged on Thursday.
The policemen who pushed the 75-year-old will not be paid during the suspension period.
The disturbing clip shows the man wearing a mask approach a crowd of officers in Niagara Square before he is roughly pushed out of their way by at least two of them.
He stumbles back, falls to the ground, and appears to be knocked out as shouts of "he's bleeding out of his ears" can be heard and bystanders urged someone to call an ambulance.
When one officer attempts to bend down and check on the injured man, he is pulled back by his colleague.
WBFO reported that the man is now in a stable condition at ECMC in Buffalo after the brutal interaction with the cops.
