A Sunday afternoon traffic stop turned to tragedy when a Brooklyn Center officer pulled her gun and shot a young man in the chest, killing him.

That man was 20-year-old Daunte Wright.

Wright, a Black man, was pulled over just before 2 p.m. Sunday, April 11 for having expired tabs on his license plate, according to Brooklyn Center police. Officers said they realized he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest during the stop.

Police attempted to take Wright into custody, but he re-entered his car and police body camera shows white police officer Kim Potter pull her gun and shoot once. According to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, Wright died from a gunshot wound to his chest.

Police Chief Tim Gannon on Monday said that he believes the officer who shot Daunte Wright during the traffic stop accidentally discharged her firearm.

The Blue Nose Pitbull is an American Pitbull Terrier or American Staffordshire Terrier, or a mix of both. These dogs have a particular gene that makes their coat blue. This breed is quite rare as the blue color is due to the recessive gene. The recessive gene affects the body’s production by reducing the amount of melanin produced. To produce blue puppies, breeders need to cross two blue parents.

The blue color in these dogs is caused due to the presence of diluted eumelanin which is the same pigment that causes the blue color in the eyes and nose. Initially, Blue Nose Pitbull was bred in England for hunting. In the 19th century, they were commonly used for bull and bear hunting.

In America, this breed was used for farming, hunting, and protecting land. For hundreds of years, these dogs were known as “Nanny Dog” for their reliable temperament.
