Former speaker of the house Bronwyn Bishop while premiers argue people have a right to protest, they should remember Australians also "have a right to go to work ... (and) the right to put food on the table".

It comes as a Black Lives Matter protest is scheduled to take place in Melbourne on Saturday which is set to see up to 50,000 people attend.

On Friday afternoon NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said she had instructed Chief Police Commissioner Mick Fuller to make a submission to the Supreme Court to place an injunction against Black Lives Matter solidarity protests scheduled to go ahead on Saturday.

While on Friday evening the Supreme Court had ruled to block the proposed protest in Sydney over fears it would breach COVID-19 health orders.

Ms Bishop said it's "absolutely ridiculous" that in NSW the protest "was legal until lunchtime" before widespread public "outcry" saw the premier instruct the Chief Police Commissioner to seek the injunction from the Supreme Court.

A Black Lives Matter protest in the heart of Sydney's CBD arguing against the treatment of incarcerated Indigenous Australians and in solidarity with the George Floyd protests is believed to have been organised by the Communist Party.

The demonstration was held in solidarity with Black Lives Matter protests in the United States which were triggered by the arrest and subsequent death of Mr Floyd, an unarmed African American man.

The protest was initiated by Indigenous Australians but at the last minute was cancelled and only went ahead after the Australian Communist Party took over.

A party member, who identifies as Indigenous, went on to lead the demonstration on Tuesday.

On Saturday a second Black Lives Matter protest is organised to take place once again in Sydney’s CBD.

Sky News host Andrew Bolt said reports indicate “if you are a white prisoner you are just as likely to die in jail as a black prisoner”.

He said the protest was really “a front for another attack on capitalism and democracy”.

It is being revealed today that George Floyd and the officer who knelt on his neck until he died used to work at the same Minneapolis nightclub. Police surrounded the Officer Derek Chauvin’s house last night as protests raged on, and today he was brought up on murder and manslaughter charges. Inside Edition spoke with Maya Santamaria, the owner of the now-closed El Nuevo Rodeo Club. She says that she remembers Chauvin having a “real short fuse.”

Two Buffalo police officers were suspended without pay Thursday after a video showed authorities knocking down a 75-year-old man during a protest, Mayor Byron Brown said.
