President Donald Trump threatened to deploy the military if states and cities failed to quell violence during the demonstrations sparked by the killing of George Floyd, an unarmed black man, by police last week. "If a city or state refuses to take the actions necessary to defend the life and property of their residents, then I will deploy the United States military and quickly solve the problem for them," Trump said. Riot police and military police used tear gas on protesters outside the White House.
As the nation prepared for another night of violent protests sparked by the police killing of George Floyd, President Donald Trump threatened to deploy the military if states and cities failed to quell the demonstrations.
“I am mobilizing all federal and local resources, civilian and military, to protect the rights of law abiding Americans,” Trump said during a hastily arranged address at the White House.
“Today I have strongly recommended to every governor to deploy the National Guard in sufficient numbers that we dominate the streets. Mayors and governors must establish an overwhelming presence until the violence is quelled,” Trump said.
“If a city or state refuses to take the actions necessary to defend the life and property of their residents, then I will deploy the United States military and quickly solve the problem for them,” said the president.
Trump stopped short of invoking the Insurrection Act, an archaic law from 1807 that would allow Trump to deploy active-duty U.S. troops to respond to protests in cities across the country. “At this time, the president has not enacted the Insurrection Act,” a senior Defense Department official told CNBC. “I refer you to the White House for more.”
During his address, Trump said he was taking “swift and decisive action to protect our great capital, Washington DC,” adding, “What happened in this city last night was a total disgrace.”
“As we speak, I am dispatching thousands and thousands of heavily armed soldiers, military personnel and law enforcement officers to stop the rioting, looting, vandalism, assaults and the wanton destruction of property.”
As the president spoke, riot police and military police outside the White House were using tear gas to clear protesters out of Lafayette Square, a public square in front of the president’s residence.
Following his remarks, Trump left the White House and walked through the square, and it appeared strongly as though the riot police had forcibly cleared the square for the sole purpose of clearing a path for the president.
Once he reached the far side of the square, Trump raised a bible in front of St. John’s Church, which had been set on fire by protesters the night before. The president did not try to talk to any of the protesters, however, leaving little doubt as to where his sympathies lay.

Scenes taken from Early Morning (1am - 4am) Satuday, May 30th 2020 in Minneapolis, Minnesota along Lake Street. All footage is my own, contact for permission before using.
On memorial day 2020 George Floyd was killed by police officers in Minneapolis. Since then peaceful protests have turned into the destruction of some parts of the city. Here are scenes taken by me early morning on the 30th around Lake Street, in South Minneapolis. This is such a sad situation in all aspects, hopefully justice can be served and Minneapolis can rebuild, learn, and grow stronger.

‘Educate Yourself!’: George Floyd’s Brother Calls For Peaceful Protests | NBC News NOW

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, U.S. President Donald Trump and former vice president and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden reacted on Wednesday to the death of George Floyd.
Frey on Wednesday called for Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman to charge the white police officer who arrested George Floyd, a black man, and was seen on video appearing to press his knee onto Floyd’s neck. Floyd could be heard saying that he could not breathe and eventually stopped moving. The officer was one of four fired a day after Floyd's death, but it's not yet known whether the incident will be considered criminal.
Walz commented that seeing the video left him "shocked and horrified," and said that he shared "that primal scream of watching humanity get erased in front of you." Attorney general Keith Ellison, who joined Walz, said the investigation would proceed with a degree of objectivity, but stressed they were dealing with a "systemic problem" and change needs to happen.
Trump made brief remarks while at the Kennedy Space Center for the eventual scrubbed mission of the SpaceX Demo-2 launch, saying it was a "very, very sad" event and they would look into the incident.
Prior to a discussion with Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf, Biden also spoke saying that George Floyd's "life mattered" and said the video reminded him of Eric Garner, another black man who died in 2014 after a New York City police officer put him in a chokehold. Garner, like Floyd, had told the officer he couldn't breathe prior to his death. The former vice president said that while the firing of the officers was right, they had to "ensure the Floyd family receives the justice they're entitled to" and said more is needed than just the officers' firing.
